Applications hosted on standalone storage arrays were migrated to a chargeable HDS USP storage array
Using IBM's SAN Volume Controller to create a virtualised, tiered storage model.
Data migration to disk array
Our consultants look at the opportunities to consolidate storage during the storage migration exercise.
In our experience the customer is invariably looking to migrate a given application from one storage array to another, possibly newer array, without considering whether all applications can be migrated.
The idea of storage migration is appealing as it can lower overall costs in enterprise storage, to centralise and possibly lower the data backup window, whilst lowering the access time to the enterprise storage and time to store data.
This brings simplification to the storage administrators - as they have fewer storage devices to manage, simplification for monitoring - as there are fewer storage devices on the network, reduced power requirements in the data centre, reduced footprint in the data centre and thus a saving in operational costs.
